Have you ever suffered from a dry itchy scalp to the point where it seems like your scalp is on fire? I have! Along with a dry, itchy scalp, it also seemed that my hair shed more in that area. Well I’m here to say there are a few things you can do to help alleviate some of these symptoms.

Create Your Own Oil Mixture

You’d be surprised of how many DIY recipes there are that are pretty cost effective, and are very natural and healthy for the body. Sometimes a lot of the ingredients needed to conduct the recipe are right in your cabinets. A great oil recipe to apply directly to the scalp to provide very fast relief of itching, and to also stimulate hair growth is a mixture of jojoba oil, rosemary oil or tea tree oil, and another carrier oil of your choice. In my case, my recipe consisted of 1 oz. of jojoba oil, .5 oz. of Vitamin E oil, four drops of Rosemary oil, and 1.5 oz. of Safflower oil. It provided tremendous relief for the dry itchy scalp that I was encountering!

Clarify Your Scalp

It is very important to keep your scalp from product build up. If you find that you use a lot of creamy products, or you apply product directly to your scalp, clarifying of the scalp is a must! Having natural hair and using a leave-in conditioner to moisturize the hair is quite common. If you find that you apply the leave-in conditioner or other products fairly close to your roots, the product will most likely make its way to the scalp, clogging the pores. Not only does a dirty scalp cause itching, shedding will definitely happen because the scalp is not breathing. Clogged pores in the scalp can also lead to acne breakouts on the face and skin, so beware!

Apple Cider Vinegar Wash

Another great remedy for dry, itchy scalp is an Apple Cider Vinegar Wash, also known as, ACV Wash. Not only is Apple Cider Vinegar very close to the PH of your natural hair strand, it is also great at providing relief for those who may be suffering from a mild fungal issues on the scalp. Apple Cider Vinegar Wash is great for lifting build up off the scalp that it seems some shampoos have difficulty doing. Aside from those benefits, the ACV wash also provides a nice luster to the hair, which is wonderful for those of you who are natural. It is often quite hard to get very curly, coily, kinky hair to shine, and the ACV wash can be a huge help!

Research Your Shampoo and Conditioner

The underlying reason for why your scalp is so itchy could be in that bottle of shampoo that is supposed to be cleaning your scalp. Check the ingredients on your shampoo and conditioner bottles to make sure that there aren’t any oils, or other ingredients that you could be allergic to. It could also be that you are allergic to products with sulfate in them. So be very mindful of that.

How about you? Do you experience dry, itchy scalp? If so, how do you bring yourself relief?
